Back to Normal
At ECA, our vision is that school families Love God, Value Learning, and Serve Others.
Busy October
During the first full week of October we saw a busy start to the month. The Fall Festival, MAP Testing, and our Fall Week of Prayer made for a busy start. As we start this new week, we are back to a “normal” 4-day week. Balancing the demands of school, classes, and friends is something that takes time to learn. One expert, Meri Wallace, LCSW, a parenting expert, and child and family therapist for over thirty years, writes a blog for Psychology Today, and is the author of "The Secret World of Children", "Birth Order Blues" and "Keys to Parenting Your Four-Year-Old". She has been a columnist for "Sesame Street Parents Magazine", "New York Family Magazine" and "Brooklyn Parent". She has been a consultant to Children’s Television Workshop and has been interviewed by national magazines including "Newsweek", "Cosmopolitan", "Good Housekeeping", "Parents" and many more.
This is what she has to say about balancing school, activities, and more.
Mary gives some great advice, but she does leave out the most important balancing act of all - connecting with Jesus. You can follow up with our Week of Prayer and have discussions with your child about stories and promises they heard last week. Pastor Jim shared life experiences as a missionary in Africa with students. Working for the Lord and finding joy being connected to his peace and love is a strong anchor is a busy world.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” - Colossians 3:23
October Theme - Love God
Every month, we focus on one of our core values. During the first month of September, we focused on a growth mindset. During this second month, we are paying attention to loving God and showing his love with others.
Hot Lunch Returns!
ECA’s hot lunch will resume this week and into the month. Here is the menu for the rest of the month!
Ag Class This Week.
This week, our AG class will be for grades K-2. There was a small change last week that prevented us from having Monday AG last week. Tomorrow is on! As you start to plan, remember that rubber boots and gloves are appropriate materials for AG Class. We do have racks for keeping boots safe. Labeling items with names helps keep things organized and safe!
Fall Classes
October 13 - Grades K-2
October 20 - Grades 7&8
October 27 - Grades 5&6
November 3 - Grades 3&4
Upcoming K-4 Field Trips
Students in grades K-4 have two upcoming field trips. On Wednesday, October 15, students will be going to Dorris Ranch. On Monday, October 20, students will be going to Johnson Farms for a Fall pumpkin patch visit. There is a charge for both of these trips. Forms should have went home last week for our first field trip to Dorris Ranch. Please check with your child or call the office if you need information.
Supporting our students and the AR Program
Students in grades K-8 are part of the Accelerated Reading program. This program sets quarterly reading goals for our students. At the end of the year, we celebrate success with a school trip for students who have reached classroom goals. You can support this with our October / November fundraiser for the end-of-the year event. Students brought home packets last week with more information and order forms. Thank you for considering this fundraiser as you talk with family and friends in the upcoming weeks.
Christian Counseling Available - Free Resources:
The NAD (North American Division of SDA) has recently shared new resources for children and teens that offer a safe and anonymous place to talk or text. Here is a news release from the NAD.
We’re excited to announce the launch of www.aruggedjourney.org our newest NAD site providing free online mentoring for guys. A Rugged Journey joins www.gorgeous2god.org (for young women) which has grown in its scope and ministry since its beginning in 2017.
These sites, along with their counterparts on social media, provide free help to our teens/young adults in a space they can ask questions without judgment or fear. The questions are answered by a team of dedicated Seventh-day Adventists at AIM on the campus of Andrews University.
In addition to the confidential Q & A, positive content is provided through videos, posts, etc.
